FARSÁLI Unicorn Essence is a multi-purpose serum. It is a lightweight formula.  It is a water-based “primer” and helps the skin to retain makeup for longer.

 It contains four superfruit extracts. They are acai berry, blueberry, elderberry, and goji berry.  Some fruit extracts contain properties that are beneficial for the skin are proven by research. Blueberry has been proven to have effects on the skin when topically applied. Blueberries predominantly have antioxidant-based anti-inflammatory effects when used topically. A study with mice found that the Pycnogenol in plants like blueberries reduced the inflammation reaction after UV exposure (Journal of Pathology). More than that, blueberries help to improve and strengthen collagen in the skin. They stop collagen breakdown, stabilize the collagen matrix, work against oxidative stress, and improve microcirculation. In a study of women aged 45-61, scientists found “that the topical mixture significantly improved cracking, creping, and thinning of mature skin when [blueberry extract] was applied daily for three months” (Life Extension Magazine).

Of the other three remaining superfruit extracts, goji berry and elderberry have not definitively been proven to have effects for the skin when they are topically applied. Furthermore, both goji berry and elderberry have been associated with allergenic potential when they are topically applied (Photodermatology, Photoimmunology and Photomedicine, 2011; Clinical and Experimental Allergy, 2003). Are these allergies significant enough to make me say, “Don’t use this product”? No, but the allergenic potential is high enough for me to say to those with particularly sensitive skin to be careful.

Acai berry isn’t likely to be much of an effect. Topical products only contain a modest amount of açai, because a high concentration of it would stain the skin and hair. Unlike turmeric, of which the active components have been extracted so there is no staining of the skin, there is no extraction of the non-colored active components of acai berry for topical skincare to date. 

How to use it:

Apply a few drops to the palm of your hands and gently press onto face and neck. For best results, use morning and evening.
